2021 Cadet Open World Championship – update
Riva del Garda 2021 – UPDATE
EXCOM, the governing committee of the International Cadet Class, met yesterday with the intention of making a decision whether or not to proceed with the 2021 World Championship at Fraglia Vela Riva this July. Members noted the rapidly falling number of COVID cases within Europe, the desire of sailors to compete at an international level and how the Italian government is keen to remove restrictions on travel to the country.
EXCOM also noted the number of sailing classes that are confirming their events are proceeding this Summer (also in Riva del Garda). Members were concerned that the number of entries may fall well below the figure that would normally attend a World Championship. This would create an unacceptable level of financial risk for the Class and urgent discussions are taking place with Fraglia Vela Riva about this concern.
We expect to receive an answer from Fraglia Vela Riva this week. We will inform you all as soon as this info comes through.
Royal Patronage
HRH The Prince Philip, Patron of the International Cadet Class
For many decades His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the Patron of the International Cadet Class. As a sailor and naval officer his heart was at sea. And for kids to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in his own favourite pastime was a great joy to him. Of course His Royal Highness was present when Prince Andrew received an immaculately finished brand new Cadet on behalf of the International Cadet Class at Windsor Castle.
We remember His Royal Highness with great fondness. He will be dearly missed by the International Cadet Class and all its sailors around the world.
