The International Cadet Class Association is proud to be a World Sailing Class Association since 1958. World Sailing is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the world governing body for the sport of sailing.
The principle members of World Sailing are the ‘Member National Authorities’ (MNAs) and the ‘Class Associations’. The Cadet is one of only two(!) International Classes for the age group of 6-17 year olds, the so-called junior classes. Together with the Optimist (an International Class since 1973) it represents the interests of the world’s sailing youth.
The Chair of the International Cadet Class is a member of the World Sailing Classes Committee, where the Class Associations, including the Olympic Classes, are represented. This committee promotes our Class’ interests at the World Sailing Annual Conference.
Currently our immediate past Chair and EXCOM Member Jan Martin Wilschut is chairing the World Sailing Classes Committee for the 2025-2028 quad. As previous Chair in 2020-2024 he was reelected at the Annual Conference in 2024. He is also Council Member on the World Sailing Council, which is at the head of the decision making process of World Sailing. It was agreed by the Executive Committee that Jan Martin is the official Class representative during his elected tenure at World Sailing.
