Official ICCA Statement
Russian attack on Ukraine condemned.
The International Cadet Class Association suspends Russian and Belarusian sailors from international competition.
The International Cadet Class Association (ICCA) condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine and confirms its decision to suspend participation of Russian and Belarusian sailors and officials from all international Cadet sailing events until further notice. This includes the European Championship, the Central European Cadet Championship, the Cadet South-America Cup, and the World Championship.
By implementing these measures, the ICCA is following World Sailing guidance in supporting a united and coordinated approach within the global sports movement.
This decision is in line with the IOC Executive Board’s protocols aimed at preserving the integrity of competitions and ensuring the safety of all athletes.
We ask all sailors to respect each other during these difficult times and wish to state that the ICCA denounces any defamatory statements made against any of our fellow sailors regardless of their nationality. We look forward to an immediate end to all hostilities and we hope for a time in the near future when we can compete again together.
To the Cadet sailors from the impacted countries: we are very sorry that you are affected by the decisions your governments took last week. You are victims of your governments’ actions.
Support For Ukraine
On behalf of our Cadet family the International Cadet Class Association expresses hope for a rapid end of the hostilities and for peace in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all of our Ukrainian sailors, their parents, coaches, friends and families.
